An illuminated Qajar marriage contract between Aqa Muhammad Sadiq ibn Aqa Farajallah to Shahrbanu Khanum
Persia, dated 20th Dhu'l Qa'da 1322/26th January 1905

Persian and Arabic manuscript on paper, 5 leaves, 6 lines to the page written in elegant and stylised jali/thuluth script in black and red, double interlinear rules with gilt decoration, outer borders with panels containing intertwining vegetal and floral motifs in gold and signatures and seal impressions of the witnesses, one illuminated headpiece incorporating the name 'Ali in mirror image, creased, last two folios with tears in the inner margins, brown morocco, slightly worn, 202 x 122 mm.; and selected verses from the Qur'an, Ottoman Turkey, second half of the 19th Century, Arabic manuscript on cream-coloured paper, 20 leaves, last folio left blank, 11 lines to the page written in clear and neat naskhi script in black ink with diacritics and vowel points in black, segmented roundels decorated with alternating red and blue dots, inner margins ruled in gold, catchwords, illuminated rectangular panels left blank for the sura headings, one illuminated headpiece in colours and gold, creased, some folios detached, yellow boards with doublures and flyleaves of purple paper, creased and slightly worn
