Persia, 12th Century

the rim and body with 14 faceted sides, slightly incurving, the base with a large roundel containing a six-pointed start with interlacing knot motif, the centre with a stylised rosette, within a band of kufic inscription with roundels, all within an outer band of elongated trefoils, the rim with cartouches of thuluth and the outer edge with a cable band

The inscriptions consist of repetitions of the words al-tamma, 'Entirety' and al-birr, 'Piety'.
