A large illuminated Qur'an copied by the scribe Muhammad Husain, a resident of Lahore
Mughal India, probably Lahore, dated 22nd Rajab 1099/22nd May 1688

Arabic manuscript on paper, 453 leaves, 11 lines to the page written in clear naskhi script in black ink with diacritics and vowel points in red and black, gold discs decorated with blue and red dots between verses, double interlinear rules in gold with gilt decoration, inner margins ruled in blue and gold and decorated with intertwining vegetal motifs in gold, catchwords, illuminated circular devices in outer margins, commentaries written diagonally in a neat naskhi script, sura headings written in thuluth script in white within gilt cartouches which are in turn placed within an illuminated rectangular panel, one double-page illuminated frontispiece richly decorated with arabesques and floral motifs in colours and gold, lower left corner damaged with loss of illuminated area, worming crudely repaired, some repairs, later red leather with green velvet cover and stamped central medallions, cornerpieces and panels
