Persian manuscript on gold-sprinkled paper, 8 leaves, 7 lines to the page written in elegant nasta'liq script in black ink, inner margins ruled in green, blue and gold, borders of pink and mauve thick paper richly decorated with stencilled intertwining stylised flowerheads and vegetal motifs outlined in gold and interspersed with exotic birds, lions' faces and leopards chasing gazelles, one illuminated headpiece in colours and gold, corners rather thumbed, some staining, catchwords erased, seal impression at beginning and end of Muhammad Ja'far al-Husaini and Muhammad 'Ali al-Husaini, one impression dated AH 1139/AD 1726-27; and Ma'ah Kalimah fi al-Haqiqah qayilaha Amir al-Mu'minin wa Imam al-mutaqin Assad-Allah al-Ghalib 'Ali ibn abi Taleb, Sayings of the Imam 'Ali, translated by Rashid-ad-Din al-Watwat, Safavid Persia, circa 1550, Arabic and Persian on gold-sprinkled cream-coloured paper, 16 leaves, Arabic text written in 3 lines to the page in elegant nasta'liq script in black ink and Persian text written diagonally and horizontally in smaller nasta'liq script, double intercolumnar and interlinear rules in gold, inner margins ruled in blue, red, green and gold, catchwords, inner margins repaired, some corners rather thumbed, later green morocco with stamped central medallions of leather onlay, faded and worn, spine repaired, doublures of plain red morocco
