Footnotes

Provenance:
Sir Harry C. Sinderson Pasha (1891-1974), MBE, MVO, CMG, personal physician to the Iraqi royal family in the 1920s and 1930s.

Sinderson, after service as a medical officer in the First World War, was posted to Iraq in 1919, where he was one of the senior medical personnel in the country, involved in the treatment of smallpox. In 1927 he established the Baghdad Medical College, which under the King's patronage became the Royal College of Medicine of Iraq. He became involved with the royal family, acting as their doctor, and was the anaesthetist during Faisal I's appendix operation. In 1941 he helped the Prince Regent escape during the attempted coup. He left Iraq in 1946 but was still in touch with Faisal II just before the king's assassination in the 1958 coup.
