A rare sealed wine bottle, dated 1729

Of 'flattened onion' shape, the body compressed on both sides and applied at one end with a circular seal embossed with the name 'J Stenkley 1729', the tapering neck with a slight bladed string rim, a high kick-in base beneath, 20.5cm high

Footnotes

Although related to the so-called 'bladder' bottles, flattened onion shaped bottles are rarely found. For an example see Willy Van den Bossche, Antique Glass Bottles (2001), p.85, pl.29
