A Beilby enamelled ale glass or wine flute, circa 1765

The tall rounded funnel bowl enamelled in opaque white with a bee-skep above a rococo leaf flourish, the reverse with a jonquil, traces of a gilded rim, on a double series opaque twist stem with a pair of spiral threads encircled by a seventeen-ply spiral band, 17.8cm high (nick to footrim)

Several ale glasses enamelled with bee skeps by Beilby are recorded, in the Lymbery and the Kaplan Collections and in the Victoria and Albert Museum. A similarly decorated glass with an elongated ogee bowl was sold in these rooms 17 December 2008, lot 131
