Barrupu Yunupingu is a sister to Gulumbu and
NyapanyapaYunupingu, both award winning artists.
Her brothers Galarrwuy and Mandawuy are each
Australians of the a Year. Her father Munggurrawuy is
known as a major artist and land rights activist of the
1960s and 70s. Her style is the closest of his children
to that which he employed. This cross current of the
Gumatj clan flame design belongs to the second season
of her major bark work. Although she has only had
two exhibitions so far (at Raft Artspace and Alcaston
Gallery) she is already in the National Gallery of
Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and Art Gallery
of New South Wales Collections.
