The pipecase by Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891), the mae-kanagu (metal clasp) by Unno Shomin (1844–1915), Meiji Period
The kiseruzutsu of muzozutsu form, decorated in gold and black takamakie, kakiwari and keuchi with a sprig of plum lying over a hatchet in grey sabiagenuri, signed with lightly incised characters Zeshin, the Nankin sarasa cloth tobacco pouch decorated with a Buddhist angel playing the sho alluding to the Noh play Hagoromo and fitted with a shakudo, bronze, gilt and silver maekanagu in the form of a paddle and small bird on a boat, signed Shomin; with wood storage box, the inside of the lid with an inscription Kanteisho, Onishi Yoshio (authentication by Onishi Yoshio), together with a paper certificate, signed by Onishi Yoshio, attributing the maekanagu of the tobacco pouch and the pipecase to Unno Shomin and Shibata Zeshin respectively and suggesting the set was originally included a pipe by Hiromasa. The pipecase 21.4cm (8 3/8in) long. (3).
