Footnotes
The work shows strong affinities with that of Kokeisai Sansho (1871-1936), who lived in Osaka and whose life and work are discussed by Boris Filatov in the International Netsuke Society Journal, vol.32, no.1, spring 2012. The style is that shown in the masks illustrated in the article, nos.14 and 15, although the kao on the present example does not appear to be recorded.
