A fine large partially-gilt-bronze figure of Benkei

By Miyao Eisuke of Yokohama, Meiji Period
Standing with feet apart with his body bending over to one side as he holds up the enormous bell (detachable) of the Miidera Monastery, with studs in relief and cast with panels of formalised lotus, his robes with gilt ho-o and stylised chrysanthemum mon among karakusa, signed on a gilt cartouche Miyao; on an integral wood stand supported on four bracket feet lacquered in gold takamakie with ho-o among sprays of karakusa.
