An inlaid bronze large dish

By Miyao Eisuke of Yokohama, Meiji Period
The centre decorated in gold, shakudo, bronze, and shibuichi takazogan and katakiribori, with an autumn scene of Oho-i beside a stream, carrying two pails of goat's milk, one balanced on her head, whilst a brigand attempts in vain to remove his hand from under her arm, two children in the left foreground point at the scoundrel in amusement, signed Miyao zo with seal Miyao. 67.5cm (26½in) diam.

Footnotes

Oho-i was the wife of a fencing master who was one day walking with pails of goat's milk when a brigand, stealing up behind her, thrust his hand under her arm to feel her bosom. Instead of spilling the milk, she trapped the scoundrel by pressing her arm firmly to her side and dragged him home to dish out his punishment.
