A gold lacquer two-tiered rectangular box and cover

19th century
The kinji ground embellished in gold and slight-coloured takamakie, kirikane and e-nashiji, the cover lacquered with Lady Murasaki seen through the katomado window with the sudare pulled up, wearing a twelve-layer robe and sitting at a lacquer table, her brush poised above the paper as she thinks, within a moonlit landscape of pine and cherry trees among undulating hills, shown on all the four sides of the box, the two removable en-suite boxes decorated with descending geese above a pine-clad island, the tray with a bridge spanning Lake Biwa, the interior boxes of rich nashiji, unsigned; with lacquered-wood storage box. 7cm x 12.2cm x 9.2cm (2¾in x 4¾in x 3 3/16in).
