An art moderne eighteen karat gold and synthetic pink sapphire necklace and ear clips, circa 1955
the necklace designed as a series of graduated fluted gold scroll links, enhanced by circular-cut synthetic pink sapphires, and a pair of earclips en suite; necklace signed Retzignac, Caracas; necklace length: 13in.; earclip length: 1in.
Footnotes
The prestigious Caracas jewelry salon of Retzignac was established by French emigrants Elaine and George Retzignac in 1948. Their workshop was best known for creating beautifully designed and finely executed jewelry. This necklace exemplifies the current taste in the mid 1950's, where delicate collar length necklaces balanced the favored fitted tops adding feminine accents to the curvaceous silhouettes currently in vogue.
