A Dublin Castle flintlock Light Dragoon pistol
1777 or later

Round 9 inch, .65 caliber smoothbore barrel; two ordnance marks towards the rear center of the breech and a crown over 5 stamed on tang. Flat lock with swan-necked cock and single line border. Crudely engraved on tang Dublin/Castle and crude crown over GR cypher in center, no ordnance mark. Brass furniture differing slightly from British made light dragoon pistols with flat triggergaurd and finial, buttcap with bulbus protrusion, no crown stamped inside triggerguard bow. Walnut stock with relief carving around barrel tang; stamp behind sideplate, appears to be a crown over GR; Brass tipped wooden ramrod. Heavier and of different form than British examples.
Condition: Good. Barrel heavily cleaned and bright, showing light scattered pitting, heavy around touch hole, markings worn. Lockplate with unusually crude markings, two crudely filled holes with under pan and 1/4 inch hole visible between frizzen spring; cock with crack below cock screw; light pitting, markings clear. Brass furniture with mellow patina and some scratches marks from use; sideplate screws marred. Stock refinished, small hole from mainspring below lockplate tang, hairline cracks on both sides of fore end, markings faint. Some scattered markes from use, chipping around pins, ramrod possibly replaved.
