A flintlock light dragoon pistol marked Vernon
dated 1760

Round swamped 9 inch .66 caliber smoothbore barrel; marked with two British ordnance marks on in center of breech and */RE on left side of breech; tang marked with crown and another mark. Rounded lockplate marked Vernon/1760 on tang and with crown over GR cypher and small crown over broad arrow in center. Standard brass light dragoon furniture; crown stamp inside triggerguard bow. Replaced brass tipped ramrod. Walnut stock with relief carving around barrel tang; early undated storekeeper's mark on right side of grip.
Condition: Very good. Barrel cleaned and having light pitting and scattered marks from use; ordnance marks partially worn. Small touch-hole, possibly relined or having seen little use. Lock with grey patina, crisp markings, top jaw and jaw screw possible replacements. Brass with mellow patina and some marks from use. Stock rough, with numerous dents and gouges, escepially under lock tang; series of 18 1/4 inch notches on right side of grip, cracks along both sides of forend.
