A Tower flintlock light dragoon pistol
Round 9 inch .68 caliber smoothbore barrel; marked in center of breech with two ordnance marks, */IC on left side of breech, probably for Joseph Grice, and crown over 6 beneath the touch hole(not visible without removing barrel). The barrel tang has a crown stamped on top and 6 stamped on the unserside. Rounded lockplate with double line border and one screw behind cock; marked Tower on tang and with crown over GR cypher in center along with small crown over broad arrow stamp; hammer stamped 6. Standard brass light dragoon furniture; triggerguard marked R/28 on bow and stamped with a crown inside bow, buttcap stamped 6 on left side; ramrod thimble and brass tipped ramrod replaced. Walnut stock with relief carving around barrel tang and storekeeper's mark dated 1786, denoting it was in inventory at that time.
Condition: Very good. Barrel and lock have been cleaned; markings still visible, but some are partially worn; light grey patina with scattered dark spots. Brass cleaned and with some marks from use. Stock with numerous scattered dents, scratches and marks from use; some chipping around pins.
