An early George I pre-Land pattern flintlock cavalry pistol by Barbar
circa 1711-14

The 12 3/8 inch tapered round two-stage barrel in .71 caliber smoothbore; center of breech with Ordnance view and proof marks. Rounded banana-shaped lock marked Barbar; the tail with later engraved crown and cipher, interior with rectangular stamp EI. Brass furniture including rounded, serpentine sideplate, single thimble, triggerguard with vasi-form finial, buttcap with grotesque mask and partial straps and vacant wrist escutcheon. Full stock with low apron at the barrel tang.
Condition: Very good. Metal with dark patina showing scattered light pitting; clear makings. Crown and cypher engraving on lock tang has been refreshed. Stock showing wear, shrinkage at barrel tang, chipping at barrel tang and buttcap, hairline crack to wrist and in front of lock and with replaced 4 inch section at tip of fore-end.
