A cased English double barrel percussion bayonet pistol by Charles Osborne
Birmingham, mid-19th century

The 3 3/4 inch casehardened slab barrels in .50 caliber smoothbore, the top signed Chas. Osborne; top fitted with 4 inch spring bayonet. Birmingham view and proof. Scroll-engraved sidelock action with bolted safeties. Blued and scroll-engraved triggerguard. Finely checkered bag-shaped walnut grip with vacant silver wrist escutcheon. Complete with green baize-lined walnut case, the lid with vacant brass escutcheon, the interior containing bullet mold and later box of percussion caps; with key.
Condition: Very good to fine. Barrel and triggerplate retain perhaps 45-55% vivid casehardening. Action with smooth, dark metal. Bayonet catch broken. Triggerguard with traces of blue finish. Grips with minor marks. Case lid with light marks and staining; lining with light wear and staining; interior of lid possibly re-lined; ket escutcheon missing.
