A Marlin Ballard No. 5 Pacific single shot rifle

Serial no. 1668, .40 calibe; 29 3/4 inch blued, octagonal No. 4 barrel, the underside with two blued steel cleaning rod thimbles. Unusual Beach fore-sight with target aperture and enclosure for globe. Elevator rear sight. Casehardened action with standard Marlin/Ballard markings and graduated peep sight. Double-set triggers. Oil-finished walnut fore-end with horn inset. Buttstock with Swiss buttplate, the wrist inset with non-factory brass spirit level.
Condition: Fine to excellent. Barrel retains 90% dark blue finish showing edge wear, spotting and area of wear six inches from breech. Excellent bore. Action with much faded casehardening showing some areas of color and scattered light spotting. Wood showing scattered marks, the fore-end with 2 to 3 inch hairline crack to left side, the buttstock with small hairline cracks and small filled area by spirit level.
