An Italian prodd or stonebow
late 16th/early 17th century

Narrow, recurved iron bow with later string; U-shaped iron fore-sight, the pillars with turned finials; arched iron rear sight above the gaffle; recurved baluster-form trigger/lever. Dark wooden tiller, the top relief-carved with acanthus behind the fore-sight and in front of the rear sight; sides and top carved with fluted and toothed bands; top rear with raised scrolling panel for the right hand; turned bone finial.
Condition: Metal with dark patina. Tiller showing scattered marks and restoration.
