An English baskethilted sword
mid-17th century

With 34 inch double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section, the forte marked S-Andria-S on one side and S-Ferara-S on the reverse. darkened steel hilt comprising guard composed of flattened bars with small shaped saltires on either side, domed pommel incised with pairs of lines. Grip re-wrapped with grey shagreen and brass wire.
Condition: Blade cleaned and showing minor nicks and pitting and rounded point.
