A composite swept-hilt rapier in late 16th century style

Straight 40 inch blade of diamond section, the deep 10 inch fullers above the hilt with line borders decorated with three panels of punched dots and surmounted by an anchored cross; ricasso with maker's mark, a crown over R. Robust and well-made hilt with four bar guard, recurved quillons and pommel of flattened cylindrical form. Steel wire-wrapped grip with wire turk's heads.
Condition: Grey metal with some scattered minor pitting.
