A sailor made diorama of a three masted merchant ship at anchor
American, late 19th century

a waterline hull carved from a single piece of wood, and finished bright; detailed with a figurehead, deck railings, capstan, bell, deck houses, water casks, ship's boats, hatches binnacle and wheel. Rigged with bowsprit, three masts, standing and running rigging. Set in a painted glazed sea with another small passenger launch at the bow. Displayed within a glass and mahogany framed case.
24 x 11-3/4 x 18-1/2 in. (60.9 x 29.8 x 46.9 cm.) cased.
