An American sterling silver gilt covered two-handled footed yachting trophy the King's Cup
Tiffany & Co., New York, N.Y. circa 1909

a yachting trophy for the New York Yacht Club, awarded to the yacht Istalena. The fitted fluted domed lid surmounted by a pine cone finial over a cylindrical body, inscribed This trophy presented by/The New York Yacht Club/to/George M. Pynchon/owner of the Sloop/"Istelena"/in recognition of Istalena's winning/The King's Cup/at Newport, August 7th 1909, issuing acanthus sheathed handles above an acanthus-chased stem over a circular foot, weight approximately 38 oz troy.

Awarded to George M. Pynchon, owner of the sloop Istalena, a NYYC 50, for the King's Cup in Newport, RI on August 7th 1909. The Kings Cup was raced on a 38 mile course from Newport to Block Island to Sakonnet and back to Newport in a light south-west breeze that was building. Istalena defeated the second place yacht by over 11 minutes.
