PALACE HOTEL, SAN FRANCISCO—SENATOR WILLIAM SHARON.

Sterling silver double-sided engraved menu card, 158 x 100 mm, 6.5 troy oz. Engraved on recto: "Dinner to Hon. William Sharon, by his Old Friends of the Comstock Lode / Palace Hotel, Feb. 8th, 1876, San Francisco" and with the full menu including wine engraved on verso. Some stray marks, slightly bowed, but generally very good to excellent.

Nevada Senator William Sharon was honored with a grand dinner to celebrate his success in helping to save the Bank of California after a disastrous crash in mining stock prices brought a run on the bank. No expense was spared in the preparation of this feast, held at the finest banquet hall on the West Coast and featuring an impressive selection of French wine and cuisine. As a souvenir, each guest received a copy of the engraved menu made of the finest Comstock silver.
