Provenance: ownership signature of John Crawford, and his note on the front pastedown dated 1827; Bruce E. McKinney.
FIRST SEPARATE PRINTING of this captivity narrative on the Ohio/Pennsylvania frontier. Also includes dispatches documenting General St. Clair's defeat in 1791. The editor, John Winter, makes a prescient observation in the foreword: "There is a time coming, too, when the aborigines of this country will excite much more attention than at present; and when every thing relative to their character, mode of life, exploits, warfare and savage cruelty, will be sought after with great avidity." Field 650; Graff 1775; Howes H179; Sabin 30291.
