8vo (208 x 123 mm). vi, [2], viii-ix, [2], 191, [1 blank], cix pp. With folding table, folding map & 5 folding plans (1 detached) with partial hand-coloring; 2 of the plans with overlays. Modern blindstamped calf to style, red morocco lettering piece. One plan detached and another working loose, minor toning and offsetting.

SECOND EDITION. Burgoyne excuses his conduct during the Saratoga campaign, the attempt by the British to gain control of the Hudson River valley which instead resulted in the surrender of 6200 redcoats. Burgoyne's defeat was an enormous morale-booster for the Americans. Howes B968; Sabin 9255.
