8vo. viii, 292, 4 ad pp. Frontispiece map printed in four colors. Original green cloth with gilt spine titles. Custom cloth chemise and half-morocco slipcase. Scattered light foxing, spine slightly cocked, light soiling to boards, minor wear to extremities.
Provenance: Toby (period gift inscription with drawing of ship and Jolly Roger to half title).
FIRST EDITION, WITH SEVERAL FIRST ISSUE POINTS, viz, "rain" for "vain" on p 40; "dead man's chest" not capitalized on p 2; no period after "opportunity" on p 178; "worse" for "worst" on p 197. The ads in the present copy are dated 5G-783. Treasure Island had first appeared in the periodical Young Folks, October 1, 1881.
