GREY, ZANE. 1872-1939.

Autograph Manuscript Signed ("Zane Grey"), 9 pp, recto only, folio, [1909], being the draft of a story titled "Silvermane," numerous deletions and a few corrections in Dolly Grey's(?) hand, some toning, folding creases.

Set in southern Utah, the story details the attempt by Mormon horse-wranglers Lee and Cuth Stewart to secure the large reward offered for the capture of a wild stallion known as "Silvermane." The story was published as "Lightning" in the Outdoor Magazine for February 1910, and was collected in C.W. Grey's anthology Hosses, in 1927. The stallion Silvermane was a recurring character in Zane Grey's work.
