HOLLAND, JAMES. 1925-1996, & EUDORA WELTY. 1909-2001.

Group of 18 pen and ink illustrations on paper, 387 x 279 through 126 x 101 mm, not signed, [1944], generally excellent, although one with paste stain from overlay, occasional editor's marks, some with light soiling.

English artist Holland's work for the 1944 British edition of Eudora Welty's The Robber Bridegroom shows a loose, sketchy style that works well with the Mississippi setting utilized by Welty in her update of the Grimm fairy tale. Also included are several pen, ink and watercolor sketches that seem to be for Grettis Saga and a very nice pen and ink on board of a Moorish castle.
