SAILING LOG.

SOUTHWORTH, ANDREW, CAPTAIN. Manuscript logbook of the merchant brig William Howland, 59 pp, April 24, 1818-September 28, 1819, some staining, chipping to margins with occasional loss, each leaf professionally restored on rice paper, remargined and sewn into three gatherings, documenting a voyage beginning at Wilmington and traveling to Hull, New York, New Orleans, Falmouth, Gibraltar, and back to New York. Tipped in among the log sheets is a note from a merchant granting the bearer permission to "kart the wine," and identifying Southworth as the ship's captain.
