This scarce Persian dictionary, which includes printing in nasta'liq and naskhi, is a revised version of Gladwin's Compendius vocabulary English and Persian of 1780. "The vocabulary itself has been enlarged and rearranged partly on a subject basis and a grammatical survey added" (Shaw).
Sir Gore Ouseley served as ambassador to the court of Fath Ali Shah, and was a "notable oriental scholar at a time when that subject was in its infancy ... he did much to encourage its emergence through his complementary literary and archaeological interests" (ODNB).
