During Russia's Great Famine of 1891-1892, Louis Klopsch mobilised relief efforts through his New York newspaper, The Christian Herald. American grain was shipped to the hungry and, in return, Alexander III sent gifts in gratitude.
Please note that this is sold together with a clipping apparently taken from a volume published in 1910, Life-Work of Louis Klopsch, by Charles M. Pepper, which describes in detail this Russian Relief Effort of 1892 and illustrates the proposed lot.
