Turkey, 19th Century

each with saucer with rounded rim, truncated conical candle receptacle and thus piece, one with repaired handle, marked with the tughra of Murad V (1876), the other with the tughra of Abdulhamid II (1876-1909)
each approx. 10.5 cm. high; total weight 343 g.(2)

Footnotes

Murad V (1840-1904) was the short-lived 33rd Ottoman Sultan, coming to power when his uncle Abdülaziz was deposed. Highly influenced by French culture, he reigned for 93 days only before being deposed on the grounds that he was supposedly mentally ill.
