A repoussé silver lidded Box with stand
Burma, late 19th Century

of cylindrical form; the box with fine repousse work and chased decoration, the central panel comprising figures in animated poses within cusped cartouches against a background of overall dense floral decoration, the top narrow panel with scrolling vines between undecorated cartouches, the lower panel with fleshy acanthus motifs in a repetitive pattern; the lid with similar floral decoration surrounding birds and quadrupeds within arched niches, surmounted by a knop in the form of a dancing figure in ceremonial attire; the splayed triform stand with a scalloped and scroll edge and three winged celestial figures as supports
