A lacquered ivory and gilt Chess Set
Rajasthan, 19th Century

one side stained purple with floral gilt highlights, the other side left natural, but with floral gilt highlights, kings with large pierced fleur de lys tops, queens similar but of smaller size, bishops with mitres, knights as arched horses' heads with manes, rooks as raised turrets with brickwork and battlements, pawns with baluster columns, all raised on square bases, (purple queen missing finial), together with an Indian Sedali work sandalwood and ivory and ebony inlaid board/box circa 1870
the king 10.6cm high, the pawn 4cm high, the board/box 45cm long(33)
