comprising an hexagonal chess board on detachable support with gaming pieces in a separate box, the ivory with detailing in black lac; the chessboard with pierced ivory edges with cartouche depicting Hindu deities on a dense foliate ground, the sides of the table with an interlacing floral vine with a band of turned ivory fittings, below further ivory knops, the central support with further ivory detaili, the base of quatrefoil form with pierced ivory overlay and banding, with four turned knops, on four claw feet; and a sandalwood box decorated ensuite, containing 15 horn and 16 ivory gaming pieces; in a red velvet box

Provenance: A gift to Sir Basil Scott (former Chief Justice of Bombay) and Lady Scott (nee Villiers-Stuart of Dromana, Co. Waterford) from Muhammad Ali Jinnah (1876 - 1948), founder of Pakistan and first Governor General from Independence to his death on 11th September 1948; and thence by family descent.
