Qajar Persia and Pahlavi Iran, dated 28 Dalv 1302 shamsi/17th February 1923; and 1st Farvardin 1308 shamsi/21st March 1929 respectively

Persian manuscript on paper, six and five lines respectively in nasta'liq script in black ink, surmounted by a printed Lion and Sun and an embossed Pahlavi insignia respectively, the first with an official stamp at lower left, creased and folded, framed
390 x 280 mm.; 430 x 280 mm.(2)

Footnotes

The first document is a Qajar edict (from the last years of that dynasty's rule) from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Interior Ministry) appointing Shariq al-Dawla as the deputy governor of Shemiranat with the monthly salary of 60 tumans (meaning 600 qiran) to be given to him from his day of departure [for Shemiranat]. It bears the ink seal of 'The exalted Government of Iran. Interior Ministry.' Shariq al-Dawla is unidentified.

The second document is a firman issued by Reza Shah Pahlavi, on the recommendation of the War Ministry, to Sultan Muhammad Sadiq Mirza Dawlatshahi, on 1st Farvardin 1308 shamsi/21st March 1929, awarding him the rank of (left blank, which may mean full) yavari (Major), for his services.

The name Reza Shah is not given. The document reads simply 'we Pahlavi', but from the date this must be Reza Shah. Muhammad Sadiq was very probably a descendant of Muhammad 'Ali Mirza Dawlatshah, son of Fath'ali Shah and the founder of the Dawlatshahi family.
