Three leaves from a manuscript of the Qur'an
Persia, 15th Century

Arabic manuscript on paper laid down on card, trimmed of outer margins, 7 lines to the page, first, fourth and seventh lines written in muhaqqaq script in gold, remaining lines in naskhi script in black ink, diacritics and vowel points in gold and black respectively, gold rosettes with blue dots marking verses, soiling and some waterstaining, 228 x 140 mm. and slightly smaller; and three leaves from a dispersed manuscript of the Qur'an, Persia, dated AH 1155/AD 1743,, Arabic manuscript on paper, 11 lines to the page written in naskhi script in black ink with diacritics and vowel points in black, interlinear Persian translation in nasta'liq script in red ink, interlinear rules in gold, verse-markers in the shape of alternating green and red leaves, inner margins ruled in colours and gold, catchwords, extensive Persian commentaries written in wide outer borders in nasta'liq script in black, two sura headings written in thuluth script in red on a gold ground within an illuminated panel, loose, edges frayed, corners rather thumbed, 380 x 243 mm.; and five leaves from a dispersed manuscript of the Maqamat al-Hariri, Near East, early 16th Century,, Arabic manuscript on paper, 15 lines to the page written in naskhi script in black ink, headings in red ink, loose
