Ottoman Turkey, dated AH 1315/AD 1897-98

Arabic manuscript on paper, six lines of text in thuluth and naskhi scripts in black ink, text panels on a gold ground with floral sprays and rococo swags, pink inner border, wide outer border with floral sprays in white and gold on a buff ground, framed
305 x 345 mm.

Footnotes

The text consists of the bismallah in the first line; the next two lines of a prophetic hadith; and the remaining text, the hamdallah, Qur'an, sura LXXXI, verse 1, and the authorisation.

Mehmed Tevfiq was the muezzin of the mosque at Ortakoy, and received this diploma from Ibrahim Haqqi, who is described as a student of Suleyman al-Kashifi al-Yanboli.
