of square form, woven in polychrome with a repeat design of roundels containing lion and sun motifs surrounded by four roundels containing crowns, artist's palettes and inscription filled roundels, above and below inscription filled roundels, the interstices with eight-pointed stars, rabbits and Chinese style dragons, framed
69 x 65 cm.

Please note that the description should read Persia, Pahlavi period. Inscriptions: honarestan-e honarha-ye ziba-ye esfahan 'College of Fine Arts of Isfahan' dar 'ahd-e saltanat-e mohammad reza shah pahlavi 'During the reign of Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi' One roundel says; tarh-e bahadori 'Design of Bahadori' The other: zarbafi .... ' embroidery ....' Isa Bahadori (d. 1363sh/1984) is credited as the first in charge of the College of Fine Arts in Isfahan from 1936 and held his position for 30 years. He himself was a graduate from the School of Fine Arts in Tehran headed by the famous painter Kamal al-Mulk. Apart from traditional designs, he was an innovator of designs for textile and carpets.
