Footnotes

This panel is remarkable for its very rich use of vivid colour, heightened by the gold and silver thread used in a dense design. Other textiles of this type are held in the Sadberk Hanim Museum, Istanbul (Reunited after centuries, Istanbul 2005, nos. 80 and 81); and in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (P. Johnstone Turkish Embroidery, London, 1985, nos. 28 and 30).
