An unusual gilt-decorated long-handled Carnelian Seal
India, probably Deccan, dated AH 1208/ AD 1793-4

of rectangular form with three lines of inscription on a ground of floral and foliate motifs, the multi-faceted fob engraved with floral vines and one line of inscription, surmounted by a star shaped stone
the seal 3 x 2 cm.

Footnotes

Inscriptions: al-mulk al-daula bahadur, the word jang and the date AH 1208/ 1793-94; and on the handle, sadr al-'asr with the number 43.

Sadr al-'asr indicates that the owner held a high judicial role and the word jang suggests a Hyderabad origin.

Additional information
