The lot is accompanied by a letter from the Superintendent of the Government Museum in Madras confirming purchase of coins and stating that the coins belong to a treasure trove which was recovered from the village of Kodur in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, South India. The coins are dated to the 13th century and belong to a Telegu Choda chief. The Telegu Chodas of Nellore ruled over parts of Andhra Pradesh from the 11th to the 13th Centuries.
