Oomersi Mawji's decorative repertoire often included zoomorphic details, hunting scenes and wild animals amidst scrolling foliage, as illustrated in our flask. The workshop under his guidance raised the quality of Kutch silver to an art form. Mawji was appointed royal silversmith to the Maharao of Kutch and is considered the best silversmith of nineteenth-century India. For a detailed discussion on the work of Oomersi Mawji, see W. Wilkinson, Indian Silver 1858 - 1947, London 1999, pp. 69 - 70.
