A Mughal gem-set jade-hilted koftgari steel Dagger (peshkabz)
Northern India, 19th Century

with tapering and slightly curved steel blade with flattened spine, the forte engraved with a fragmentary pole-medallion containing scrolling floral and foliate interlace, the blade decorated in gold inlay with a cartouche containing pseudo-inscription, the spine with a scrolling floral vine, the steel centre of the hilt with a further band of pseudo inscription, the jade hilt inlaid with a repeat design rubies and emeralds in gold mounts in the form of stylised flowerheads, the end of the hilt with six rosettes
