Footnotes

Provenance: acquired from Mansour Gallery, 5th March 1971.

The inscription reads: 'izz wa nasr wa iqbal [?], 'Glory, victory and prosperity [?]'.

The frit and the use of moulds allowed the ceramicist to decorate the surface in a way that would have been impossible when using only the potter's wheel. See G. Curatola (ed.), Persian Ceramics, Milan, 2006, p. 79 for a similar example.
