An illuminated small Qur'an in the Kashmir style, in a Qajar lacquer binding
Probably Persia, 18th/19th Century

Arabic manuscript on thin gold-sprinkled paper, 145 leaves, 25 lines to the page written in clear naskhi script with diacritics and vowel points in black and red, interlinear rules in gold, gold discs between verses, inner margins ruled in blue and gold, catchwords, illuminated devices in wide outer margins, sura headings and juz number written in red in the upper corners of each page, sura headings written in thuluth in white on gold cartouches incorporated into illuminated rectangular panels, three finely illuminated frontispieces in colours and gold, slight waterstaining and discoloration mostly restricted to outer margins, later floral lacquer binding with covers decorated with branches of apple blossoms, wild roses and irises with gold leaves, doublures decorated with stylised floral arrangements in the Kashmir style in colours and some gold, rebacked
