A Qur'an written in muhaqqaq script
Ottoman Turkey, late 17th/18th Century

Arabic manuscript on paper, 372 leaves, 17 leaves at beginning and 7 leaves at end later replacements, 11 lines to the page written in elegant muhaqqaq script in black ink with diacritics and vowel points in red and black, a cluster of three red commas between verses, text on replacement leaves written in naskhi script in black ink, red dots between verses, sura headings written in thuluth in red, the words ashr, hizb and juz written in thuluth in red in outer margins, occasional commentaries written in different hands, waterstaining mostly restricted to outer borders, some smudging, discoloration, some crude repairs, original covers incorporated into modern brown leather binding, with flap
282 x 195 mm.

Footnotes

A waqf inscription in Arabic gives the name of the donor as Hajj Ahmad ibn Abu Bakr Bayezid and the date AH 1203/AD 1788.
